Beware, the lure of high salaries working abroad is one of the modes of TIP

The Task Force on Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) formed by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has uncovered hundreds of TIP cases. In his disclosure, several modes were carried out by the suspects. One of them is the lure of working abroad with big salaries.
One of the cases uncovered with this mode was revealed by the Brebes Police, Central Java Regional Police. The victim was promised a job in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a high salary.
But in reality, the victim was only in the holding center and then sold to Saudi Arabia as a domestic worker (PRT). While working in Saudi Arabia, the victim did not receive a salary and was employed indefinitely.
The victim also asked to be returned to Indonesia, but was only sent home after paying Rp. 20 million.
Another case with the modus operandi of coaxing work abroad was also revealed by the Boyolali Police, Central Java Regional Police. The victim was lured to work while studying with a salary of SGD 2,700 per month. But in reality the four victims who had paid a sum of money never left.
Finally one of the victims departed but there the victim did not match the reality promised by the perpetrator.
Seeing this mode, the Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan also reminded the public not to be tempted by the lure of high salaries working abroad. He also asked people not to easily pay a certain amount of money to work abroad.
“The public must be vigilant and careful. It’s better to use official channels if you want to work abroad so that security, rights and others are guaranteed,” said Ramadhan in a written statement, Saturday (24/6/2023).
Furthermore, Ramadhan revealed that since the TIP Task Force was formed, up to now it has handled 511 Police Reports (LP). Of the hundreds of prisons, as many as 598 suspects have been arrested.
Ramadhan said that the various modes of the suspects ensnared the victims of TIP. Most of them are luring victims to work as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) or Domestic Workers (PRT). This mode recorded 386 cases.
The other modus operandi is that the victims are made into Commercial Sex Workers (PSK). The figure in this case is 136. The other two modes of TIP are employing victims as ship crews (ABK) in 6 cases and child exploitation in 34 cases.
“Of the hundreds of cases handled by the Crime Investigation Task Force for the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police and the Regional Police, 1,744 victims have been rescued,” said Ramadhan.
Of the thousands of victims, Ramadhan detailed that there were 777 adult female victims and 99 female children. Then for adult male victims there were 819 and male children there were 49 people.
Furthermore, Ramadhan said, of the hundreds of cases uncovered, currently 100 cases are currently under investigation. Then 384 are in the investigation stage and the files are complete or P21 has one case.
